Abstract

Maternal education and family income are the two socio-economic variables which had influenced the awareness and adoption level of mothers of the study area. Of the 300 mothers interviewed, 13 per cent were found to have no awareness about ante-natal care practices. Almost all the mothers have recognized the importance of immunization and their educational status had affected the awareness about different types of vaccinations. About 41.50 per cent illiterate women were told about immunization of their children by doctors or nurses to whom they had consulted during pregnancy. Of all the vaccinations given for protection of child from diseases, awareness about B.C.G. vaccination was found to be the highest among the mothers.
