A study was undertaken to estimate the correlation coefficient and path coefficient analysis of yieldand yield contributing traits in 18 mungbean cultivars grown in randomized block design with threereplications at Research Farm, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, CCS University, Meerut, during rabi season 2015–16. Yield, a complex polygenic trait has a large number of other contributingcomponent traits. Correlation analysis reveals the relationship of dependent variable yield with itsindependent variables, thus association of various traits would determine their relative significance toimprove yield. Seed yield per plant exhibited positive correlation with clusters per plant (0.839), pods per plant (0.756), biological yield per plant (0.531), harvest index (0.440) and branches par plant(0.341)indicating their importance in increasing yield. The critical evaluation of path coefficient for agronomictraits, indicate that harvest index had the highest direct and positive effect on seed yield per plantfollowed by the biological yield per plant (0.552), harvest index (0.531), clusters per plant (0.439), 1000seed weight (0.237) and pods per plant (0.159) are major component traits for the improvement of grainyield.
