Abstract

The objective of a plant breeder are to evolve new plant types in crops with increased seed yield and other desirable characters. However, seed yield is a result of interaction of different factors including environmental interactions. Therefore in the present study correlation and path coefficient analysis was computed to find out the association of characters influencing the yield. A positive and significant correlation was exhibited by number of seed per capitulum, number of capitula per plant, number of primary branches per plant and number of secondary branches with seed yield per plant. The characters viz., number of seeds per capitulum, number of capitula per plant, and test weight had the maximum direct effect on yield. hence, it is suggesting to give more emphasis on these characters while exercising section for yield improving in safflower
