Abstract

Naturally aged seeds of soybean variety Gaurav and JS-2 having 60 and 64 per cent germination, respectively, were treated with plant growth regulators viz. gibberellic acid (GA3), indole acetic acid (IAA) and Tiba with 50 and 100 ppm concentration each and hydrated seed (control) Effect of growth regulators was significant for all parameters. GA3 showed maximum improved germination (72.50%), shoot length (75.66 mm), germination index (22.83) and seedling vigour index (9771.60) but contrasting to this Tiba showed negative effect for shoot length. Root lenght was significantly increased by IAA (64.91 mm) followed by Tiba (62.41 mm). Concentration of 100 ppm. of GA3 was significantly superior for germination but for Tiba and IAA it was 50 ppm. Variety JS-2 proved superiority over Gaurav with respect to germination and vigour improvement.
