Abstract

Vaiinbility and correlation studies were carried out in Zea mays involving ten diverse genotypes. All the genotypes differed significantly for all the traits under study except leaves per plant and stem girth. Maximum PCV and GCV acompanied with high GA were recorded for straw yield and ear height. High heritability estimates were observed for all the traits except straw yield, leaves/plant, leaf length, leaf breadth and stem girth. Grain yield displayed positive and significant phenotypic and genotypic correlation with 50% silking and leaves per plant, respectively suggesting the improvement of maize through these characters.
