Wheat consumption in India and world has increased substaintly due to increased population, income, development of wheat products and changes in consumption habits in developed and developing nations. The wheat flour trade and value added products account for several billion U.S. dollars and our share is very negligible. The production of wheat has increased seven folds with increasing'trends and near around 22 to 27 per cent are produced by govt. agencies to feed the P.D.S. and welfare schemes, declining off-take is again mounting pressure on marketed surplus of wheat in deomestic market and wholesale prices indices is moving more faster than agril price indices and to all commodity due to increasing M.S.P. price nidices and liberalized policy. Despite this we have not be able to emerge as a major exporter in order to fatch tremendous opportunity. India needs major changes in research, marketing infrastructure, procurement and price policy. The study demostrates how the liberalized policy can be exploited as an agri business venture in international market with pace of increasing productivity and marketed surplus, that will generate additional income, employment by maintaining stocks upto norms and quality concern among farmers through reducing the per unit economic cost and restructuring the price policy.
