Abstract

The present study was carried out in Behat mango cultivation zone Saharanpur district and Siyana mango cultivation zone Bulandshahar district of western Uttar Pradesh during the year 2003–2004. To know about socio-economic features of orchardists, association between socio-economic features and extent of adoption of improved mango cultivation practices. It was observed that most of the orchardists belong to the age group of above 60 years. The education status most of the orchardists was up to high school. Most of the orchardists living joint family system; they had 5–8 members in a family. Their main occupation was farming and subsidiary occupations were poultry, livestock, management, service etc. Their land holding size was more than one acre. Most of the orchardists were having high category of own farm assests. The per family income was above Rs 18,000/- per annum. Most of the orchardists social participation was low and their most of the socio-economic features were significantly associated with extent of adoption of improved mango cultivation practices
