Abstract

The present investigation describes the effect of UV-B rays on the morphological characters (seed germination, plant height, number of foliage per plant) and seed yield of Glycine max (Cv. JS 335 and Y 9040). For this purpose, Glycine max seeds were germinated after irradiating with UV-B radiation at various time durations viz., 5min, 10min, 15min, 20min, and 25min. Results demonstrated that the seed germination decreased with increase in duration of UV-B treatment However, a significant improvement in plant height of both the soybean cultivars was registered after 5min and 15min UV treatments. Similarly 15min and 20min UV treatments also considerably enhanced the foliage and seed weight of both the cultivars.
