G x E Interaction and Phenotypic Stability for Yield and its Component Traits in Bread Wheat

Abstract

Fifty genotypes of bread wheat were evaluated over eight diverse environments for six characters including grain yield. Genotype x environment interaction was found significant for all the characters. Further, linear -component of G x E interaction was significant for biological yield and harvest index suggesting that the variation in performance of different cultivars could be predicted. The genotypes Kanchan, UP-2617, HP-1868, HP-1871, HD-2866, HD-2893 and WH-779 were found to be stable across environments for grain yield. Thus these genotypes could be included in the hybridization programme to converge the stability characteristics of grain yield for development of a stable variety adapted to wider range of environments.
