Constraints Perceived by The Buffalo Owners in Adoption of Recommended Buffalo Management Practices

The present study was carried out in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan to identify the various constraints perceived by buffalo owners in adoption of recommended management practices. Poor conception rate of A.I. In buffaloes, distant location and poor services at A., centres, wrong belief about pregnancy diagnosis and high cost Involved in calling vegerinary staff for treatment of breeding related problems were major constraints In adoption of recommended breeding prectices. Lack of awareness about hay and silage preparation, high cost of fodder and concentrates, non-availabllity of balance concentrate and mineral mixture in village, lack of awareness about treatment of poor quality roughages to improve its nutritive value and inadequate irrigation and small land holding for green fodder cultivation were the main constraints in feeding management practices. High cost investment in construction of scientific buffalo shed, inaquate credit facilities, lack of knowledge about cheap and scientific buffalo shed model and scarcity of water pond for bellowing were the major constraints In housing management practices. Regarding milking management practices, low price of milk amd ghee, lack of market for milk products, low productivity and economic gain, lack of knowledge about full hand milking and lack of knowledge about milk processing were found serious constraints in the study area. Prevalence of the belief that colostrums feeding to calf before placenta drop decrease the milk prodution, lack of knowlwdge about milk replacer feeding to calf, dewormlng and castration practices were major constraints in calf rearing management practices. High cost of veterinary medicines, non-availability of verterinary doctor, distant location of veterinary hospitals, lack of knowledge regarding first aid of sick animals and low awarences about deworming practices were the serious constraints in health care management practices.
