Abstract

The fumigation technique for evaluation of fungal mycelial disc has been modified by introducing the mycelial disc upside down on the surface of the medium in beaker there by covering the oil and sealed with vacuum grease on the glass sheet. The volatile fraction, i.e., the oil was extracted from the aerial part of Mentha spicata L. var. MSS-5 and subjected as a fumigant against the storage fungi viz., Alternaria alternata (fres) Keissler, Penicillium variabile Sopp and Aspergillus flavus Link respectively. The oil as fumigant exhibited broad fungicidal action by inhibiting 15 storage fungi 28000ppm, which is the hyper lethal concentration.
