Impact of Vocational Training on Rural People: A Case Study of Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Haryana

The development of the rural area is considered the development of a nation because a majority of the population lives in a rural area. In Haryana, 60.7% of the total population lives in a rural area as per the National Sample Survey Office report 2012-13. The primary source of living for the rural people is agriculture and its allied areas. In this regard, Krishi Vigyan Kendras has been established at the district level under the Ministry of Agricultural and Farmers Welfare. These institutes help to increase the income of farmers, making people self-dependent, development of rural youth and women with the help of general as well as vocational training. Therefore, vocational training especially ‘bee-keeping’ training has been addressed and tried to know the impact of the vocational training programme on skills, status and initiation of professional activity of the trainees. The study has been conducted in four districts of Haryana state that is Rohtak, Kurukshetra, Hisar, and Mohindergarh. It was found that the skill of an overwhelming majority of the respondents improved up to a ‘low’ level. It was also found that the majority of the respondents did not start a professional activity after getting training. Moreover, they stated that vocational training is not helpful in the improvement of their status.
