The centrally sponsored Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission has been bridging the rural-urban divide by providing quality essential amenities and improving the lifestyle of residents in the state. Unlike other development schemes, the mission focuses on developing such the Rurban clusters in transitional areas where residents have access to all essential basic facilities and infrastructure. From this point of view, this is an extraordinary effort of the Central Government; for the effective implementation of this mission, adequate funds have been arranged through the convergence of various existing developmental plans and Critical Gap Funding (CGF). At Haryana, ten clusters have been identified in three different phases. Under which a total of 150 villages in ten districts have been included, in which about 4.25 lakh residents reside. Therefore, researchers attempted to appraise the various aspects of the mission’s progress and impacts. This research paper examines the progress of development, the challenges faced in mission implementation, and the impact of the mission on selected clusters under SPMRM.
