Swachh bharat mission - Gramin: Role in improving sanitation status in India

India had the dubious distinction of having the highest number of people defecating in the open. Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin (SBM-G) is an ambitious programme that envisages making rural India open defecation free (ODF) by October 2019. For awareness generation among community, the method of community-led total sanitation (CLTS) adapted aiming to create ODF communities. Women have been playing an important role in creating awareness about the need for toilets and in motivating community to construct toilets. Their role in social mobilisation and behavioural change would help us achieve a ODF Nation.
