Abstract

Women role in various socio-economic, political, and cultural activities is highly significant. Unfortunately, despite being half in term of numerical strength, the role of women has been grossly underplayed. This gap has become a big hurdle in the process of country’s sustainable development. The state since its independence has been trying to minimise this gap. In the end, the Panchayati Raj Institutions can be seen instrumental in leading women participation and mobilising their creative potential. With this approach, the current study aims to locate women political participation through PRIs in the selected district of Jammu and Kashmir. The paper light the most significant political issue: female engagement in local politics through local self-government.
