The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a significant infrastructure development project that spans multiple countries, with implications for the environment. This research article employs qualitative analysis, utilizing a combination of primary sources from government entities, secondary sources, and a case study of Indonesia and China to examine the Belt and Road Initiative’s (BRI) impact on environmental development in East Asia. The paper delves into the challenges and prospects of sustainable growth in the East Asia region, with a specific focus on the BRI’s environmental effects in Indonesia and China. By scrutinizing the environmental implications of BRI projects in these two countries, including their approaches to air and water quality, biodiversity conservation, sustainable energy initiatives, and climate change mitigation and adaptation, the study sheds light on collaborative efforts to promote green technologies and sustainable practices. Through a comprehensive assessment of the Belt and Road policy’s environmental implications in Indonesia and China, this paper presents valuable insights and recommendations to foster environmental development and enhance the sustainability of BRI projects in East Asia.
