Locating ‘Spiritual Democracy’ in the Context of Religious Conversion: Reading Gandhi and Ambedkar

Any action related to Inter-religious domination does not allow the individual to realise his/her spiritual values. It can never develop spiritual humanity either as path or destination. Without spiritual humanity, spiritual democracy is not possible and without spiritual democracy, social democracy or political democracy only remains as ‘form’ not as ‘spirit’. Perhaps, this is the reason why Indian intellectuals like Gandhi and Ambedkar did not support conversion resulted from inter-religious domination. This paper will investigate the understanding of conversion by the above mentioned two intellectuals in search of spiritual democracy in their conceptualisation.
