Freedom in Contemporary Political Theory: An Analysis

Freedom is an important concept in contemporary theory. After French, revolution it became an essential part of political discourse. But like all other concepts freedom is interpreted in many ways and even in contradictory terms. Two major divisions of it are negative and positive form of freedom. Later even these have been interpreted differently. The question of using freedom or liberty is also contextual and perplexes the common man. Freedom in principle is essentially based on the notion of individual autonomy and reason. Freedom is also clubbed with equality for a comprehensive political theory and the relationships between the two are also very important.
