The failure of SAARC to evolve cooperation in South Asia has forced India to search for an alternative platform in coming days. This paper tries to examine how BIMSTEC grouping can be a favorable option for Indian strategic, economic and social-political ‘security tool’ rather than SAARC. Firstly, the paper explains why SAARC failed in achieving its goal and secondly, why BIMSTEC has gained more favor as preferred stage for regional cooperation in South Asia for Indian Perspective. However BIMSTEC's progress is too trivial and has problems, but some corrective measures is required to strengthen it.
