Women empowerment is a key concept of the society. In the male dominated society the achievement of women empowerment is a difficult task. For centuries, women in this country have been socially and economically handicapped. They have been deprived of equal participation in the socioeconomic activities of the nation. The social system and male domination are major stumbling blocks on the way of women empowerment. The Indian judiciary, particularly the Supreme Court, has so far and has been playing a positive role in this regard. The Indian Supreme Court has always stood by the side of the women for amelioration of the conditions of women in the society. The judiciary interpreted various legal provisions meant for the protection of women in such a way as to be most beneficial to our women. The Supreme Court of India has been much instrumental and stood by the side of the women for rendering relief to them and to safeguard their rights.
