Abstract

The new India is on the rise. Particularly, with the spectacular victory of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2019 General Election a new question has come that is “Does Modi 2.0 signify the wave of new nationalism in India?” Although, the answer to this question is hard to give in terms of ‘yes’ or ‘no.’ Still, no one can deny the presence of a new kind of nationalism in Indian politics which is very much in the year 2019. Some critics called this wave a quasi-theocratic or dangerous version of Hindu Rashtra. The main objective of the authors in this paper is to analyse this Wave of New Nationalism of Modi 2.0 in India. The research methodology is analytical in nature and data has been taken from secondary sources. The findings highlighted the fact that the major shift in the new nationalism can be witnessed in the unprecedented shift from identitarian to aspirational politics. Whereby despite all hovering clouds, it envisages the possibility of a renovated India fuelled by a clean, accountable and people-oriented government. In fact, this new nationalism is not a rejection or destruction of the earlier spirit of nationalism rather, it is just a continuation and fulfillment of secular India with its overarching ideology.
