The effect of eight cropping sequences/green manuring on root knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita) in muskmelon was evaluated for three years (2004–2006) in an infested field. Significant increase in root knot nematode population was observed when dhaincha (Sesbania sp) as green manure was part of cropping sequence. Growing of toria (Brassica rapa) either as crop or as green manure or keeping the soil fallow decreased root knot nematode infestation in muskmelon. Of the different cropping sequences followed, Dhaincha –potato- muskmelon favoured maximum build-up of root knot nematode infestation.
