Abstract

Symptoms typical of begomovirus which include yellow vein, vein clearing and yellowing type were observed on pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima) and snap melon (Cucumis melo momordica) plants. Nucleic acid based assay were used to detect the begomoviruses from leaf tissue of infected plants. Two sets of degenerated primers Deng A & B and AV 494 & AC 1048 were used for detection of begomovirus. Expected amplified product of size ~ 530bp and ~ 575bp were obtained. This is the first report of two new hosts of begomovirus from this region.
