Abstract

Ten wheat genotypes namely PBW 343, HD2687, PBW 502, PBW 587, PBW 550, PBW 579, HD 2733, PBW 509, HD 2329 and PBW 588 were evaluated for resistance to Puccinia striiformis pathotypes 46S119 and 78S84 under artificial inoculation at seedling and adult plant stage. Genotype Agra Local was used as a susceptible check for comparison and developed susceptible type pustules at both seedling as well as adult plant stages having infection type of 4 and disease severity of 70 S to 80 S. Wheat genotypes PBW 550, PBW 587, PBW 579 and PBW 509 were not infected by 46 S119 pathotype of P. striiformis at adult plant stage. All these genotypes were infected by this pathotype at seedling stage but the infection was less (infection type 2) as compared to other genotypes. On the other hand PBW 343, HD 2733, HD 2329 and HD 2687 showed susceptible type response (disease severity 20 S to 505) and infection type 33+ was found on these genotypes except PBW 502 and PBW 588 where it was 3 type. No infection of P. striiformis pathotype 78S 84 occurred on PBW 550, PBW 502, PBW 588 and PBW 509 at adult stage. In rest of the genotypes, the disease severity ranged from 20 S to 50 S, being highest on Agra Local (80 S). However, at seedling stage all the genotypes were infected by this pathotype of P. striiformis but the infection type was lowest on PBW 550 (2) and it was 3 each on HD 2329, PBW 587, PBW 579, PBW 588, PBW 343, PBW 502, HD 2733, HD 2687 and PBW 509 showed 33+infection type. So, genotypes PBW 550 and PBW 509 were not infected by either of the pathotypes at adult plant stage. Also PBW 587, PBW 579 and PBW 502, PBW 588 were not infected by 46 S119 and 78 S84, respectively.
