Tomato is the second largest vegetable crop in term of cultivated area and production volume after potato. It is grown throughout the year because of favourable agro-climatic conditions in one or another part of country. Tomato is vulnerable to the attack of many pathogenic and non-pathogenic diseases. Out of these, viruses are responsible for causing huge economic losses. During the year 2010 & 2011 incidence of two seed-borne viruses i.e. tobacco mosaic virus and tomato mosaic virus was observed on tomato cultivar Punjab Chhuhara grown at vegetable experimental area, PAU Ludhiana. Different types of symptoms like mosaic, vein bending, marginal upward bending, puckering, necrosis and blistering were present in infected plants. The incidence was higher (21.25%) during 2011 as compared to 2010 (14.89%). The infected leaf samples and the seeds collected from the infected plants were analyzed to confirm the presence of these viruses using double antibody sand-witch enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (DAS-ELISA).
