Abstract

Powdery mildew caused by Erysiphae chicoracearum is becoming widespread disease in the most okra growing areas of Uttarakhand. Therefore effective management practices are desirable. A field trial was conducted at Agriculture Research Station, Majhera, Uttarakhand to evaluate the effect of organic material, bio-agent and fungicide against powdery mildew disease of okra. Results revealed that fungicidal sprays of wettable sulphur performed well in terms of per cent disease severity and fruit yield followed by soapnut. In wettable sulphur sprays 26.66% and 28.33% disease severity was recorded in var. Arka Anamika while 11.67% and 16.67% disease severity in cultivar Parbani Kranti followed by treatment soap nut which observed 28.33% & 35% in Arka Anamika and 16.67% & 20% disease severity in Parbani Kranti respectively during 2007–08 and 2008–09 cropping seasons. Bio-agent Trichoderma harzianum also gave quite effective results against powdery mildew disease, whereas, treatments containing cow urine, cow dung, turmeric, mustard oil either alone or in combination gave similar results in terms of per cent disease severity as well as fruit yield.
