Abstract

An intensive survey of capsicum grown under protected conditions in low & mid hills of Himachal Pradesh was conducted during 2008 to 2010 to assess the status of diseases and insect-pests. Eight fungal, one bacterial and three viral diseases were identified. The major fungal diseases affecting capsicum are collar rot, willts, powdery mildew & leaf spot caused by Rhizoctonia, Fusarium, Colletotrichum & Cercospora species. The incidence of bacterial wilt varied from 4.5 to 30% and of powdery mildew was 5 to 40%. Among viral diseases leaf curl is the major disease. At few places its incidence observed up to 30 percent. Aphids, whiteflies, mites, thrips and fruit borer were the major insects which caused huge economic loss. Weather factors like temperature, relative humidity were also correlated with the period of maximum incidence.
