Wheat is infested by many fungal diseases including rusts, smuts, bunts, mildews and blights. Loose and Flag smuts caused by Ustilago nuda tritici and Urocystis tritici respectively are the major diseases in important wheat growing areas of Himachal Pradesh causing economical losses in terms of grain yield. Four seed dressing fungicides were tested as seed treatment against loose smut and flag smut at Experimental farm of HAREC, Dhaulakuan during 2009–10 & 2010–11 crop seasons. The data revealed that tebuconazole (Raxil 060 FS) @ 0.333 g/Kg treated seed resulted in complete control of loose smut & flag smut and gave highest grain yield. Vitavax @ 2.5g/Kg seed also resulted complete control of loose smut, however, it was not effective against flag smut. None of the treatments showed phytotoxicity.
