National Symposium on Strategic Issues in Plant Pathological Research held at Department of Plant Pathology, CSK HP Krishi Vishvavidayalaya, Palampur on November 24–25, 2011
Colocacia an important vegetable crop whose all parts are consumable, is mostly grown in the rainfed areas of Himachal Pradesh. Major constraint in the production of colocacia is leaf blight (Phytophthora colocaceae) affects leaves, stem and causes rotting of rhizomes. The disease leads to low production some times total failure of the crop. Farmers do not use control measures in this crop for disease management and suffer huge losses. So keeping in view the importance of the crop and the large scale demonstrations were conducted on farmers’ fields during 2009 and 2010 covering an area of about 1ha each at Luthan/Sudhangal areas of Dehra Block of district Kangra. Two years data on effectiveness of spray schedules revealed that two sprays of Ridomil MZ 72/Metco (2.5g/l) followed by two alternate sprays of Blitox 50 (3.0g/l) gave best disease control and almost double yield over unsprayed control.
