An analytical method was standardized for the estimation of residue of metalaxyl in cucmber. The samples were extracted with acetone, diluted with brine solution and partitioned with dichloromethane, dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate and cleaned up by using activated charcoal. Final clear extracts were concentrated under vacuum and reconstituted into acetone. Final determination was made by gas chromatography using nitrogen phosphorus detector (NPD). The identification of compound was based on retention time. The retention time for metalaxyl in cucumber was 3.9 minutes. The method showed good linearity over the range-assayed 1ug/ml to 10ug/ml. Recovery studies were performed at 1.0, 0.5 and 0.06 mg/kg fortification levels and the recoveries obtained ranged from 80% to 120%. Limit of quantification was found to be 0.06 mg/kg and limit of detection was 0.02 mg/kg.
