Abstract

In present study, phenol, flavonoid and ascorbic acid content were significantly high in resistant genotypes as compared to susceptible genotypes. Activity of enzymes (PAL) required for biosynthesis of phenolic compounds and other antioxidant enzymes (PPO and POD) was also high in resistant genotypes than susceptible genotypes. Enzymatic activity declined in susceptible genotypes with the onset of disease and increased in resistant genotypes. These biochemical indices could be used for screening of large breeding population of watermelons for resistance against CMV.
