Abstract

Pepper mottle virus (PepMoV) was isolated from plant samples collected from hot pepper fields and identified and characterized on the basic of biophysical properties. the virus isolate has TIP between 60–65oc, DEP of 10−2 – 10−3 and longevity in vitro (LIV) of 7 days at room condition and 8 days under refrigeration. On the basic of biophysical properties, PepMoV which is prevalent in Punjab under natural conditions found to be different from PepMoV detected from other countries around the world. hence establishment of Indian Pepper mottle virus as distinct species is strongly suggested.
