With the power reforms all over the country and commencement of Regulatory Regime in the country, the distribution companies have started functioning as an individual entity. The shield which the distribution department used to enjoy before reforms is no more available and the newly reformed distribution companies (DISCOMS) have to survive against the onslaught of higher losses, poor revenue and political indifference. Due to the presence of Regulator good service are required to be provided at least affordable cost. It is difficult for any DISCOM to hike the tariff unless ARR is approved by the SERC. The DISCOM will therefore have to find out avenues to reformed themselves and survive on their own. The paper hereunder describes in nut-shell various ways and means successfully tried by GUVNL in bringing the DISCOMS to order and make them a reasonable profit making units.
