Solution of power quality problems using distribution static compensator

Power quality aspects have gained utmost importance today. Power quality problems have been resolved in the past using shunt passive or active filters. Lately, several solutions have been suggested and the recent developments in FACTS/Custom power devices have opened new opportunities to apply power electronics based solutions to power system problems. It is a challenge for the power engineers to develop cost effective and fast speed solutions to provide reliable power supply to all. The use of Custom power devices is the topic of current research and Distribution Static Compensator is one of the most popular solutions used nowadays. In this paper, several simulation studies with DSTATCOM are presented and its usefulness in solving various power quality problems in distribution systems is discussed.
