Abstract

For technical, aesthetic and economical reasons, our next generation transmission lines to be built with new design concepts using new materials in order to reduce the dimensions of the support structures. This paper discusses the mechanical strength tests carried out on a transmission line tower built from Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composite material. The details of development of composite tower and its performance during full scale tower test carried out at Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) Bangalore are presented.
