Abstract

Conducive policy environment, regulatory framework, fiscal & financial incentives have accelerated development of renewable energy (RE) generation in the country in past few decades. Due to such initiatives, large capacity addition through renewable generation shall continue to take place in future also. Presently, in the renewable generation portfolio, wind constitutes major share i.e. 70%, however, it is characterised by intermittency & variability. In addition, in past few years, Solar generation have also attained exponential growth. Increasing renewable penetration presents numerous challenges to the system planner as well as grid operator. This paper identifies challenges in grid integration of large scale renewable as well as suitable measures to address them through strengthening of transmission infrastructure, State-of-the-Art control technologies as well as implementation of suitable technical standards & policy measures.
