In Indian electricity sector with peculiar characteristics of an energy-deficit, populous and geographically diverse and spread out country, Smart Grid lie solutions for energy poverty and universal energy access. The paper discusses the present Indian power sector scenario and the relevance of smart grid in India. The main objective of this technical paper is to underline the present scenario of those selected Smart Grid Pilots in India, including proposed state-of-the-art Technology Integration, Consumer Coverage (Base), present status and Indian Smart Grid experiences.
