UDAAN - Creation of a unified asset management platform via IT/OT integration for big data management in POWERGRID

The integration of Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) systems in the form of UDAAN (Unified Digital Assessment of Asset Network) marks a significant stride for POWERGRID, India's national transmission utility. With assets valued at USD 40 Billion, comprising 175,000 circuit kms. transmission lines and 275 substations, we face the challenge of managing and analysing vast amounts of data generated from diverse sources. UDAAN, a unified asset management platform, has been introduced to address this challenge, aiming to provide actionable insights, optimize asset performance, streamline maintenance processes, and enhance overall operational efficiency. This paper explores the development, features, and impact of UDAAN on our asset management practices.
