Abstract

Damping off of cabbage caused by Pythium debaryanum is one of the major biotic stresses hampering the yield of the crop. The disease is evident in both pre and post emergence stages. At the pre-emergence stage the seeds rot and fail to germinate while at the post-emergence stage rotting occurs in the collar region of the plant and it topless on the ground. Both fungicides and bio-antagonists can control the disease when seed treatment or seedling dip treatments are performed. In the present study, seed treatment with Captan 50WP, Thiram 75WS, Thiram 37.5DS + Carboxin37.5DS, Trichoderma viride, Pseudomonas fluorescens and Azotobacter formulations were done. Out of these Captan 50WP manifested the best control at both pre- and post-emergence stages followed by Thiram 75WS and Trichoderma viride formulations and hence may be recommended in cabbage cultivation for controlling the disease.
