Abstract

The experiment regarding the studies on yield characters of capsicum and production economics in capsicum-maize intercropping system consisting of eight treatments viz., capsicum in flat bed without maize (T1), single row of capsicum with single row of maize (1:1) in flat bed (T2), double row of capsicum with single row of maize (2:1) in flat bed (T3), triple row of capsicum with single row of maize (3:1) in flat bed (T4), capsicum in ridge bed without maize (T5), single row of capsicum with single row of maize (1:1) in ridge bed (T6), double row of capsicum with single row of maize (2:1) in ridge bed (T7), triple row of capsicum with single row of maize (3:1) in ridge bed (T8) with three replications in randomized block design was conducted at Vegetable Research Centre, G.B. Pant university of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar during spring-summer season of the year 2008. Treatment T6 i.e., planting of single row of capsicum with single row of maize (1:1) in ridge bed gave the best results in respect to yield characters of capsicum viz. number of fruits per plant (17.38), average weight of fruits (27.79g), yield per plant (479.16g), total yield (23kg plot−1) and yield per hectare (17.75 t). Maize green cob yield (11.14t ha−1) and maize green fodder yield (30.35t ha−1) was found maximum in treatment T6 Highest net profit was obtained in treatment T6, that amounted to Rs. 345684.28 ha−1.Maximum cost benefit ratio (1:12.5) was observed in treatment T2 i.e. single row of capsicum with single row of maize (1:1) in flat bed.
