The field experiments for present investigation were conducted at NBPGR Regional Station, Bhowali, to study the most appropriate spacing and effect of perennation in rose-scented geranium cv. Egiptian/Kelkar (NIC23414) with regard to herbage yield and essential content. Results indicated that planting of geranium cv. Kelkar (NIC23414) at 30 x 30 cm spacing was found to be the best in regard to herbage and essential oil yield (612.22 q/ha and 40.09 kg/ha, respectively) and this cultivar was the most suitable for planting as perennial crop in temperate hills of Uttarakhand followed by Almora Local with 95 per cent and 90 per cent perennability (Rattooning), respectively. Rattoon crops exhibited increasing herbage and essential oil yield up to three years reaching maximum in third year (261.32 q/ha and 18.29 l/ha, respectively). High percentage of the quality attributing constituents were also observed in essential oil of cultivar Kelkar which enables it to be the most suitable genotype for cultivation and trade in Uttarakhand hills.
