Nine indigenous germplasm lines of phoot were evaluated and characterized using SDS-PAGE of seed protein extracted in Tris-HCl buffer (0.0625N) at Biotechnology laboratory of Department of Vegetable Science, G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar during May, 2008 to July, 2008. A total of 13 seed protein bands could be resolved which were distributed in four distinct zones namely A, B, C and D. These zones were further sub-divided into A1, A2, A3, A4, B1, B2, B3, B4, C1, C2, D1, D2 and D3 sub-zones. Differences in banding pattern observed only in A zone. Based on these differences and similarity in the protein banding patterns, the 9 genotypes of snapmelon were classified into 3 different groups. Group-I comprised of more number of genotypes (6) and it was observed that all genotypes have oblong shape fruit. On the basis of UPGMA analysis, 9 genotypes were categorized into two major clusters. Cluster one comprised of 7 genotypes while cluster two consisted of 2 genotypes.
