Abstract

Okra germplasm consisting of 85 accessions which included cultivars, related species and their inter specific hybrids was screened for two seasons, while their amphidiploids, backcrosses and F3 generations was screened for one season to jassid [Amrasca biguttula biguttula (Ishida)] tolerance under field conditions. Only the wild species A. moschatus-1 and A. ficulneus -1 were found resistant while two biotypes of A. tetraphyllus, A. manihot spp. manihot, A. manihot spp.tetraphyllus, A. manihot (L.) Medikus, A. tuberculatus and A. angulosus were found tolerant whereas A. caillei-1, A. caillei-2 and cultivars of A.esculentus were found susceptible to jassids in both season. Interspecific hybrids showed differential reaction to jassid tolerance. The hybrids between Phule Utkarsha and A. tetraphyllus-1, Phule Utkarsha and A. tetraphyllus-2 and Phule Utkarsha and A. manihot spp. tetraphyllus, their amphidiploids and lines derived from them showed tolerance to jassids.
