Arthropod diversity of aonla (Emblica officinalis Gaertn) in Eastern Uttar Pradesh

Abstract

At various growth stages of aonla (Emblica officinalis Gaertn) a total of 31 and 28 arthropods were recorded respectively, during 2004 and 2005 under prevailing agro-climatic conditions of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Among all arthropods, 5 sap feeders belong to 5 families of order Hemiptera, 6 defoliators (4 in 2005) belong to 5 families of orders Lepidoptera and Coleoptera, 2 gall forming insects belong to 2 families of orders Diptera and Lepidoptera, 2 borers belong to 2 families of order Lepidoptera, 12 natural enemies (11 in 2005) belong to 9 families of 5 orders (Coleoptera, Diptera, Neuroptera, Mantodea and Araneae), 3 pollinators belong to one family of order Hymenoptera and one other arthropod of order Hymenoptera were recorded. Among different group of arthropod one sap feeder i.e. plant hopper (Seliza truncata Walker) and one defoliator i.e. bag worm (Eumeta sp.) were reported for the first time on aonla.
