Abstract

The study of the growth patterns of calcuttia litchi revealed that the maximum fruit size was recorded at 55 days after fruit set and thereafter the fruit size stabilized. A rapid increase in fruit weight was noticed upto 50 days (19.4 g) after fruit set but the fruit size increased at slower but statistically significant rate until the last harvesting date. However, the pulp weight increased at slower rate in the beginning upto 30 days and after that sudden upsurge was noticed in pulp weight. The total soluble solid content of the fruits increased and titrable acidity as the growth period advanced. The colour break stage was noticed at 45 days after fruit set. The fruits of litchi cv. Calcuttia can be harvested between 19 th to 24th June i.e. 55 to 60 days after fruit set under sub-mountainous conditions of Punjab when the fruit must have attained weight of 19-20g, TSS of 18% or more and colour of the fruit must be pinkish red with smooth tubercles.
