The bulbs of some onion varieties were kept at different tempertures i.e. 0, 5,10,15,20 and 25°C amd their respiration rate was measured. It was found that respiration rate was low at 0°C temperture but it increased rapidly when temperature raised to 10°C. Among the varieties, lower respiration rate was recorded in light red coloured onion cv. N-2-4-1 while comparatively higher respiration rate was found in dark red colour and white colour varieties. The Q10 coefficient was found higher at low temperature range but low at higher tempearutre ranges. The heat production was also high at higher storage temparature. These observations confirm that light red colour varieties have better storage capacity over dark red colour varieties.
