Abstract

Present study was carried out in Ladakh region of India to know the extent of variability and various nut and kernel characteristics of walnuts produced by 26 seedling trees. A great extent of variability was recorded for nut weight (22.44%), pad width (24.21%), shell thickness (34.83%) and kernel percentage (21.11%). Variations were also noticed for other traits like nut width, nut height, nut thickness, index of roundness, pad thickness, kernel width, kernel height, kernel thickness and other non metric nut and kernel characters. All the nut and kernel characters of bearing seedling trees were documented.
