Abstract

Punica protopunica L. is a large deciduous shrub of 7.13 m in average height. Plant bears flower on current season growth in a terminal cymose between April and June. Fruits are 5.76 x 5.86 cm in size and maturity appears in July-October. The chemical analysis of ripe fruits revealed that fruits contain juice (71.35%), TSS (12.00%), total sugars (2.43%), malic acid (4.17%) and vitamin C (5.83 mg/100 g of fruit pulp).
