Abstract

An experiment was conducted during 2010–11 at Division of Vegetable Science and Floriculture, FOA, Chatha, SKUAST-Jammu to study the effect of herbicides on weed control, growth, flowering and yield of marigold cv. Pusa Narangi Gainda transplanted in three different seasons i.e (Rainy, Winter and Spring season) in a plot size of 2.40x2.40 m. To control weeds in early stages, two Pre-Plant herbicides namely Pendimethalin 30 E.C. and Oxyfluorfen 23E.C. each at three different concentrations(1.0,1.5,2.0 and 0.25 0.50,0.75l a.i/ha respectively) along with one hand-weeding and Control (un-weeded) were taken under study in all the three seasons. Both the herbicides were effective in controlling the weeds but oxyfluorfen significantly proved better in controlling the weeds, and improving the growth, flowering and yield in marigold. The treatments Oxyfluorfen @ 0.75 and 0.50 l a.i/ha significantly controlled weeds and reduced their dry weight in all the three seasons and showed maximum growth, flowering and yield as compared to rest of the treatments. Weed control efficiency (WCE) and Herbicidal efficiency (HEI) was also found more in the similar treatment.
