Abstract

Plant regeneration via embryo culture allows to overcome post fertilization barriers in hybridization and in obtaining higher and faster rate of multiplication of elite genotypes. Being juvenile in nature, embryos have high potential for regeneration. A reproducible protocol for plant regeneration through embryo culture in walnut has been standardized. Best embryo germination 94.66% was observed in DKW (Driver and Kuniyuki medium for walnut) supplemented with 3 μM BAP and 5 μM IBA. Complete plantlets with well developed root and shoot system were obtained from embryos of approximately 2.5x 4.5 mm within 8–10 weeks of culture.
